Dear Parents,

As we continue to promote kindness in our classroom, cafeteria, school yard, and school community, there is so much wonderful learning happening at all grades levels.

  • Our Student Council and our National Junior Honors Society has adopted a classroom to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Each classroom received a backpack graphic with prices to hang in their classroom. The goal is to raise enough money to fill a backpack. Each class will try to fill as many backpacks as possible.
  • Our students have been working hard and trying to complete Random Acts of Kindness each day. Kindness is discussed each day at the beginning of community prayer and then within each students’ individual homeroom. They are reminded that “Kindness inspires Kindness.”
  • Our students have been visiting their prayer buddies and completing various activities with each other. It is so nice to witness this partnership between our younger students and our older students. [READ MORE]Weekly Update-Week of 9.18.17

School holds ‘pink out’ to support teacher with cancer

An entire school community banded together Thursday to support one of their beloved teachers.

Karin Kane is a 6th grade teacher at Saint Katharine Drexel School in Holland, Bucks County.

She was recently diagnosed with an aggressive stage of breast cancer.

Mrs. Kane has two children who also attend St. Katharine Drexel, but Thursday’s event clearly shows that this school is one big family.

They gathered for a “pink out” and a “Kickball for Kane” game.

Students and faculty want her to know she’s loved and supported.

“We just felt that she is one of our own and this is what our school does. We come together as a family, especially as life happens. That’s one of our most important goals here as a school,” said Lisa James, Director of Advancement at St. Katharine Drexel School.

So far, the school community has also raised more than $6,500 for Mrs. Kane’s care.

They tell us she’s under the weather from chemotherapy treatments, so she couldn’t attend Thursday’s event.

St. Katharine Drexel School kickball tournament benefits teacher with breast cancer

Students and staff at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School in Northampton held a kickball tournament and other activities Thursday, June 1, 2017, to benefit sixth-grade teacher Karin Kane, who recently was diagnosed with an aggressive stage of breast cancer.

Kane, the mother of two children, has taught at the school the last five years. Thursday’s activities started with the St. Katharine Drexel community gathering in the parking lot for a prayer service, and then the kickball started. One of the highlights was a game pitting teams of school alumni against each other. Participants in Thursday’s activities decked themselves out in pink, the color of breast cancer awareness.
